What’s an Australian life or death bucket list?

Imagine you have just landed in Australia, what’s the first thing you want to do?

Write it down right now!

Now, imagine your on that long-haul flight home, what is the one thing you would seriously regret not doing? Now write that down.

And, hey presto! You now have yourself an Australian life or death bucket list. Things you would like to accomplish in Australia that give you the feeling you can’t live without or you would die trying. What’s an Australian life or death bucket list?

Now, I am not advising that you push yourself so far, that you are putting your life at risk. I am just saying that you need to feel passionate about what’s on your list because you won’t accomplish it or it will be cluttered with silly things that don’t mean that much to you.

For me, a selfie with a wombat, cuddling a koala and scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef were things I was going to do or die trying. I was sh*t scared I was gonna get eaten by a shark!

I still have not cuddled a koala yet though… but I have jumped out of a plane at 15,000 feet over a beautiful beach in Wollongong, Australia and spend every day attempting to surf, trying to not think about sharks.

So it is okay for your list to evolve as you evolve.

Not sure where to start?

Australia is a very big place, it is very hard for you to know everything and there could be things that should be on your life and death bucket list that you didn’t even know about.

But stop right there, don’t do what I did!

I covered my bedroom wall with a map of Australia and started to research everything. Nearly suffocated myself and my other half in to-do lists and sticky notes… There is no need to do that.

Start with ‘light research’. A light flick through what Australia has to offer.

The best resource to start with is Australia.com

This is the official Australian tourism website. This resource was my go-to handbook. It has everything from self-drive journeys to an awesome trip itinerary building function.

I always learn something new everytime I dive into this website. Throughout my travels, I really don’t know what I would have done without it. It’s a great place to start and work out the basics.

As we keep going through these steps together I will share a few more essential resources with you, but this is the best one to start with.

Let your heart guide you. You’re just making a list for now. If you end up writing too many things, make sure you star the ones you can’t live without.

I know this is very hard because you may want to do everything, that could be an overall goal you aim for but make sure you always stay proud of what you achieve, and keep taking each step as one mini adventure at a time.

Start now!

Do some light research, mess around with the Australian Itinerary and then be serious, start your bucket list now. On page two of your notebook. Write down at least five life or death activities on your life or death bucket list then post them below to hold yourself accountable.

Next, let’s talk about when and where to land

In a massive continent with six states and two territories. Read my next step to find out the easiest way to work this out: When and where to land in Australia.
