Frequent Flyer Free Hidden Perks

Hidden perks in free membership frequent flyer accounts.

How spending five minutes researching an airline online before making a booking can save you money.

Once you are all set up being a Cashback Master and before booking your flight, my next travel hacking baby step for you is read up on the membership of the airline you plan to fly with.

How it works:

The memberships have all sorts of deals and usually some really great free perks.

  1. Find the flight you are looking to book
  2. Research the airline –  this only takes a few minutes
  3. Flick through their free frequent flyer membership programme
  4. Always try and sign up for free memberships to start with. It is always good to understand the airline you are about to fly with
  5. Look for hidden deals in baggage allowances, entertainment, food and beverages, and wifi. In some cases being a member is the only way you get wifi on board e.g. flying with Emirates

How it worked for me:

  1. Before travelling to Australia I flew via Hawaii on Island Airlines
  2. I signed up for a free Island Airline Membership and read through their baggage, points and wifi information
  3. By being a member, instead of paying $25 for my checked luggage I paid $15

Some Airlines even have their own cashback sites. A great way to collect extra points by shopping online.

A good example of this is Norwegian,  one of my favourite airlines. They have a great rewards programme where you can earn ‘cash points’ for shopping online.

Tip: If you haven’t started travel hacking yet then make sure you keep track of the miles you earn and memberships you join in case you can transfer them over to a partner frequent flyer account.

Start saving the day you land with Cashrewards:

Cashrewards offers Australia’s largest selection of online stores. It is a shopping portal with hundreds of partner retailers. Cashrewards offers a variable amount of cashback. On average they give 7% cash back on every purchase.
