How to start saving with Quidco

Here is a step-by-step outline of how to start saving with Quidco, outlining how it works, ways to join, ways to earn free cash back and how I use it to save money.

Quidco is one of the top cashback sites in the UK, with over 3500 retailers to choose from. I have been a happy member for years now, saving on my usual spending habits, travel bookings, and takeaway. It is my favourite travel hacking baby step because it is so easy to use.

How Quidco makes money:

Quidco is paid a commission for directing you to a retailer’s site. The commission is usually based on how much you spend. You still receive your item/booking directly from the retailer as usual, but you also get some money from Quidco for clicking through them.

How to join Quidco:

First, make sure you pick the right membership:

  • Basic membership is a free account suitable for people who are new to the website and would just like to see what it offers, or if you only expect to make a small amount of money.
  • Premium membership: Premium members get their cashback quicker, exclusive offers and bonuses, extra customer support and ad-free shopping. It offers a wider range of earning potential. However, it requires members to pay for their account using £5 of their annual Quidco earnings. I would recommend it if you are planning to use Quidco for most of your online shopping all year-round.

Once you pick your membership, go to Quidco.com and register. You will only need the below information to join:

  1. Email address
  2. Full name
  3. Postcode
  4. Gender
  5. Date of birth
  6. Renewal policy info – This is optional but it sends you reminders when your car insurance or electricity bill is due for renewal.
  7. You add your payment information when you are ready to withdraw, or if you opt-in for in-store cashback.

You can use Paypal or Facebook to Join, but I used just my email address.

Refer Friends

How referring a friend works:

  • Earn £10 cashback every time you refer a friend
  • Once the friend earns £5, Quidco pays you £10
  • You can also share this £10 with the person you refer
  • For example, if you click on any of my Quidco referral links. Once you join and earn £5, half of my £10 referral payment will be sent to you
  • You will be instantly doubling your earnings. So make sure you click on my link below to start.

Tip: Download the Quidco Cashback reminder. This browser plugin helps you to not miss out on any savings. It will pop up in the left-hand corner as a notification, reminding you that you could be claiming cashback on any store you visit online.

How I use Quidco:

To save on my accommodation bookings I use Booking.com and Quidco. Follow the steps below to see how I do it:

  1. Sign in to Booking.com. Find the deal you are looking for and make note of it, then close the page.
  2. Sign into your Quidco Account and find the cashback offer for Booking.com.
  3. Make sure to read the small description of what I get cashback for and how long it will take to confirm. Offers and deals on Quidco can change often with new retailers coming on board. Make sure you read the offer, not just the cashback amount. Cashback usually has terms and conditions that specify the deal that Quidco and the retailer has. Some of these conditions are very specific; like having to buy a particular item or be a new customer.
  4. Click through the link on Quidco to start shopping at Booking.com. You must access the retailer’s website through Quidco. Doing so means your journey will get tracked so that a completed sale gets recorded for the retailer to confirm.
  5. Find the deal you wanted. Book your days and pay as usual.
  6. Within a few hours, you will see that the transaction has been tracked by Quidco. You will also get a confirmation email that tells you how much cashback you will be expecting and by when.
  7. I usually add a small reminder to my calendar of when it estimates my cashback will go from ‘tracked’ to ‘confirmed’. Once it is confirmed it is yours to keep, but you usually can only withdraw once you have reached the £1 threshold.
  8. Withdraw and enjoy! Or look at ways to use your cashback to earn more as a ‘Quidco master’.

It isn’t fun having to wait for your money to confirm but it is a great bonus once it does. I like to think of it as a little savings pot that seems to get released to me when I need it the most. Think of these savings as your holiday budget you can’t dip into all the time!

Now you can earn around £300 a year.

Quidco says that on average its  most active members pocket £300 each a year. There are ways to become a Quidco master but make sure you don’t think of this as an income source.
